Job Summary

The position is responsible for developing and implementing outreach plans for various PSEG Long Island  initiatives and projects to a wide range of audiences.   Responsibilities entail working with internal teams to develop outreach plans and strategies that achieve milestones and goals while minimizing the impacts in communities. The position frequently advises and directs the activities of internal teams as appropriate to successfully gain the external approvals needed.  The position requires  tracking and monitoring multiple projects at one time.  The position provides advice to internal stakeholders with information on the political and community impact of corporate decisions. 
The position requires availability 24/7 during storms and restorations and for matters involving elected officials and media inquiries.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement project outreach plans, outreach budgets and other materials in coordination with PSEG Long Island External Affairs Regional Managers and other internal groups as appropriate
  • Provide strategic guidance to PSEG Long Island internal stakeholders such as project managers, engineers, legal, regulatory and permitting  associates  Track and organize projects, create reports and spreadsheets for leadership
  • Document and report on PSEG Long Island capital project and other project outreach and communications and monitor project status (including capital projects, workplan initiatives, etc)
  • Develop strategic communications for community members describing PSEG Long Island projects in local communities
  • Develop materials such as letters, fact sheets and power point presentations describing PSEG Long Island outreach plans and initiatives  
  • Represent External Affairs department at various internal and external meetings and events upon request.

 

Job Specific Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills, Knowledge):
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7 or more years of demonstrated knowledge of the utility and power industries in combination with experience in Communications, Public Affairs and/or legal/regulatory areas
  • Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD) preferred but not required
  • External candidates should possess experience in the fields of community relations, public boards or committees, elected or appointed government or public sector experience, or large scale construction project experience
  • Must possess a valid driver's license (Extensive in-state travel is required)
  • Must foster an inclusive work environment and respect all aspects of diversity. Must also demonstrate and value differences in others' strengths, perspectives, approaches, and personal choices
  • Exceptional communications and interpersonal skills developed through interaction with executives, public officials and community/local boards
  • Exceptional writing, presentation and public speaking skills
  • Project planning and management
  • Lobbying skills, or experience in governmental process advocacy
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience writing and editing.
  • Experience producing press releases, talking points, op-eds, letters to the editor and position papers.
  • Understanding of business processes and vernacular.
  • Knowledge of the Energy or Utility business.
  • Strong customer relations skills and ability to work with the public.
  • Graduate degree Business, Communications, Public Policy
