Job Summary

The position is responsible for driving Engineering and Network Architecture planning and design efforts and supporting other Network Engineers in their day-to-day operational activities as each person will bring their unique skill sets with them to the organization. You will additionally work on high level design documentation, creating high-level topology drawings, and constantly testing new technology for POC.
The Technology Engineer is a direct report to the Sr, IT Network/Telecom Supervisor with understanding of business goals, business processes, and technology expertise in these areas.

The Technology Engineer is involved in the full technology life cycle and is responsible for designing, coding, configuring, testing, implementing and supporting software, hardware and systems. Technology Engineers work closely with Analysts and Product Managers to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and physical design of technical solutions Technology Engineers may be assigned to either implementation or support functions. Implementation involves creating new technology based solutions whereas support involves upgrades, maintenance or issue resolution to existing technology solutions.

Job Responsibilities

Design, configuration, development, documentation and testing of technology solutions to meet business or technology requirements Evaluation of existing technology solutions to determine fit for purpose for the new business or technology requirements.  Recommendation of technology alternatives.  Collaboration with other individuals to ensure proper integration of the new technology solution with the existing technology solutions. Analysis of end user’s needs, business and technology requirements   Translation of these requirements into technology solution capabilities and design.  Alternatively, using the user needs, business and technology knowledge to peer review designs, implementation plans, software code, configuration settings or other artifacts to ensure technology solution being created by others meets the user needs, business and technology requirements.
•    Collect, consolidate and analyze business and technical requirements from key constituents. Recommend appropriate technological designs and solutions that align with the business requirements, the company’s technical strategy, and provides the most efficient and cost effective solution;
•    Work with carriers/vendors to design and implement various LAN architectures for various business units while maintaining high-available real-time data
•    Lead the delivery of the specific network solutions, including requirements analysis, internal proposal preparation, evaluation of supplier proposals, tool selection, and implementation planning;
•    Develop network/LAN architectures, perform network traffic analysis, predict LAN network bandwidth needs, and recommend modifications to the network configurations which reduces costs, maintains regulatory compliance and improves service 
•    Work with IT Product teams and other IT areas as appropriate throughout the development, testing and implementation life cycle, including participation in troubleshooting of production issues;
•    Maintain currency in network technologies and industry trends, including participating in the planning and execution of critical patches and version upgrades
•    Evaluates existing technology solutions and platforms and provides recommendations for improving technology performance by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of needed modifications.
•    Creates process flowcharts, diagrams, drawings and other related documentation.  Creates technical workflows using different modeling techniques.
•    Collaborates with all stakeholders such as enterprise architects, software development, operations, cybersecurity and infrastructure to integrate applications and hardware.
•    Provides support toward resolution of escalated support tickets. Applies operation break fixes and performs other proactive maintenance activities until permanent solutions can be implemented. Supports and participates in the solution deployment process for new functionality/subsystems/modules,   upgrades, updates and fixes to the production environment.
•    Makes solutions and solution parts production-ready by following the standard change management processes, completing required forms, following procedures, completing version control documents, etc.

 

Job Specific Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
• A minimum of 6 years of professional technology solution engineering
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities through technology solution ownership and adoption, projects or other work experiences.
• Demonstrated experience translating business outcomes, business requirements and technical requirements into technical designs for new technology solutions or enhancements to existing technology solutions, while following architectural standards and organizational policies
• Diverse experience in network/systems/security design and implementation of data network infrastructure based on mostly Cisco’s equipment and technologies
• Experience in designing, implementing, and supporting data and converged network infrastructure including most of the following: Cabling, SONET, 802.1x, vPC, Routing Protocols including OSPF and BGP, LANs and LAN Protocols, WANs and WAN protocols, Wireless LANs, Wireless WANs, Network Management tools, Local and Geographic Load Balancers, LAN optimization, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Firewalls, Web Application Firewalls, and other network related technologies in support of a large corporate network
• In-depth knowledge of Cisco IOS, NXOS , BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, FCOE and FC environments
• Experience with Datacenter virtualization technologies including hands on experience with  Cisco Nexus platform including 9k, 7k, 5k and SAN switching
• Experience with cloud (preferably AWS) network/infrastructure technologies
• In-depth hands on experience with Cisco ASR 9000, 4000 ISR UC routers and Catalyst 9K, 4500, 3500, 3600 switching environment


Desired Qualifications: 
• Cisco certifications - CCNP Datacenter, CCNP Routing and Switching, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
• Amazon Solution architect - Certification
• Knowledge of Virtual technology platforms including VMware vCenter, vSphere, and integration with Cisco UCS
• Experience implementing off the shelf products
• Experience with mission critical technology solutions
• Understanding financial principles as they apply to technology investments such as cost to achieve, cost to operate, depreciation, maintenance etc.
