Summary

Apprentice Cable Splicer in OH/UG Lines.

Training program to be conducted initially at any or all of the reporting locations in the Department. Apprentice Cable Splicers will be rotated between locations periodically during the first two years as workload and training requirements dictate. Apprentices who successfully complete the entire training program will be advanced to the classification of Cable Splicer A. Trainees will progress in accordance with the Apprentice Cable Splicer A worker training program. Transfers will be made in accordance with T&D seniority.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform all activities relating to Underground Distribution and Transmission line construction and maintenance and activities related to Underground Lines
  • Applicants will be required to successfully complete all training and progress to top step Cable Splicer A classification.
  • Having some knowledge of circuits, voltages and functions of the same.
  • Maintenance of service to public utility business requires off schedule and overtime work.
  • Candidates will required to promptly respond to such off schedule or overtime assignments.
  • In addition to possessing the qualifications for this position, candidates will be expected to work overtime in accordance with the Department requirements, participate in the Company’s Emergency Restoration Program and may be required to work special schedules once training has been satisfactorily completed.

 

Job Qualifications

  • Must have one year of hands on work experience using hand/power tools OR have completed a high school BOCES program
  • All candidates must pass a screening exam that includes physical fitness, aptitude and E-Plate tests.
  • All candidates are required to pass a medical evaluation.
  • Candidates must have a valid US Drivers License, and be able to qualify for a Class A driver’s license with Metal Coil Endorsement.
  • Candidates selected for this classification will be required to participate in the Federally mandated drug program.
