Job Summary
The NERC Ratings Compliance & Standards – Staff Engineer is responsible for maintaining LIPA compliance with evolving NERC FAC-008 Transmission Facility Ratings. This position will work closely and collaboratively with Transmission Operations, System Reliability, Asset Management, Projects & Construction, East Division, West Division, Engineering and the Planning Departments in an effort to maintain NERC FAC-008 compliance. This position offers problem solving and challenging leadership opportunities on various NERC Facility Ratings initiatives and represents PSEGLI/LIPA in various key internal and external stakeholder committees.
Job Responsibilities
The main job duties entail ensuring compliance with requirements for all applicable LIPA Bulk Electric System (BES) facilities and elements that are subject to the NERC FAC-008 standard. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Support lead engineers with the process of coordination and management of facilitating NERC FAC-008 compliance which include the following:
- Ensure all existing ratings and new ratings implementation process are accurate by performing field equipment verification.
- Identify any changes related to the LIPA’s BES Facility Ratings.
- Maintain all documentation related to LIPA’s BES Facility Ratings, including creating/revising procedures, process documents and guidelines and creating new process, procedure and manual documents based on best practices.
- Support storm restoration activities, as needed.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in System Operations and/or Transmission and Distribution systems.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
• Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills; strong planning and organizing skills; adaptable and results-oriented
• Possess leadership skills, professionalism and customer/client focus
• As the job requires driving to Company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid
U.S. driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driving history
Preferred / Desired Skills:
• Electrical utility experience
• Familiarity with the transmission and distribution systems
• Able to read I understand electrical one lines
• Engineering in Training Certificate
• Advanced technical degree or MBA
• Project Management or Lean Six Sigma Certification
