Job Summary

This position oversees performance of fossil systems and directs unit efficiency improvement activities. Develops total performance system for effective monitoring and optimization of units, systems and equipment performance.

NOTE:  This position is currently within Power Fossil.  We expect the Fossil sale to be completed within the next 6 months, and it is our expectation, although not a certainty, that in the event of the sale of the Fossil plants this position will not remain within PSEG, but will transfer to the buyer. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct and report on engineering, chemistry and managerial analyses of performance related issues; identify key indicators 
  • Quantify controllable operating costs and develop/manage performance efficiency tools. 
  • Recommendations cost reduction & optimize unit performance optimizations.
  • Establish performance standards/goals and recommend equipment/operational enhancements.
  • Act as primary contact with Business Analyst / ER&T for scheduling and reporting on Claimed Capability Audits, black-start tests and similar activities.
  • Evaluate projects and operating alternatives for maintaining units and/or station.
  • Perform root cause analysis of system and equipment problems
  • Coordinate/supervise vendor and contractor activities; Manage outage projects (PIC / COL)
  • Perform field inspections and condition assessments to support maint planning
  • Hold/maintain LOTO tags
  • Plan job scopes for online and outage work
  • Perform GADS, PJM/NYISO testing and reporting

 

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Discipline required.

For the Performance Engineer (GL 28) – 6 years experience, including experience in a plant environment

For the Plant Engineer (GL 29) - 8 years experience, including experience in a plant environment

  • Computer literacy with good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written and verbal
  • Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid US driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.

Desired:

  • PIC / COL Qualified
  • Distributive Control System, Boiler, Rotating equipment, medium to high voltage electrical systems or turbine generator experience.
  • Ability to read and revise print drawings
