This is a "Project" position designed to support project work for a limited duration. While the exact duration of the project is yet to be determined, we currently anticipate a period of 5 years based on business needs at the present time following which you will separate from the Company. It is important for you to understand that this period may be shortened based on business needs in the future at which point you will separate from the Company. It is also important for you to understand that this employment is of a limited duration and that you will not be entitled to separation benefits under any PSEG plan at the time you separate from the Company. Director Level approval and waiver will be required for you to bid on other PSEG opportunities within the first 5 years of assignment. If your assignment ends prior to the anticipated timeframe based on business needs, you will be allowed to bid on other PSEG opportunities without Director level approval from the time you are notified your assignment will be ending through the end date of the assignment.


This is a multi-level growth series position, the title, grade level and incentive target assigned to the successful candidate will be determined by assessing skills and related experience, learned through the interview process. 



This successful candidate will perform advanced and complex mainframe computer systems administration of PSEG Long Island mainframe systems and subsystems. You will work in an Agile/DevOps model as a team supporting Customer Care, Call Center technologies, Digital Channels such as Salesforce, Mobile Apps, Automation, Customer Web Portals/self-service, and emerging technologies.



• Provide z/OS operating system (parallel sysplex) support for CICS / DB2 mainframe (along with associated disaster recovery)

• Perform standard system programming activities such as hardware configuration, installation and vendor software installations in the IBM mainframe environment.

• Establish, manage and support production and test environment job schedules.

• Adhere to production controls and reporting, including schedule definition and planning.

• Support storage management, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, networking and operating procedures.

• Build and support automation to prevent, resolve or detect problems.

• Work with technical, operations and application development staff to enhance the mainframe environment.

• Repair ABENDs and perform job restarts and take appropriate remedial action;

• Provide ongoing analysis of ABEND and Incident trends, leveraging industry expertise and best practices to reduce ABEND frequency

• Participate in software deployments and various support functions as defined by the department manager.

• Establish and maintain a close working relationship with PSEG product Development and Maintenance teams to provide technical support, troubleshooting assistance, and advice


Required Education, Skills and Competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or Information Sciences or related technical degree.

• Minimum 6 years’ experience supporting IBM mainframe operating system environments and administering related software products, including installing maintenance and new releases.

• Strong knowledge of z/OS operating system architecture, internals, operations, and recovery scenarios

• Strong customer service and follow-up skills.

•This position requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.


Desired Education, Skills and Competencies:

• IBM Assembler language, COBOL, SMPE, TSO, JCL, DB2, VSAM, BDAM, VTAM, IBM Communications Server, SMF, RMF, SyncSort, ROPES, CA- Intertest, CICS VSAM Recovery, DADS Plus for CICS, CICS Performance Analyzer, Omegamon

• Strong focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

• Strong technical proficiency in information technology/computer disciplines.

• Relevant certification is preferred such as Amazon Web Services (AWS)

• Experience with specific phases of the software development life cycle, especially Agile, Iterative, and Waterfall.

• Ability to create both technical and non-technical end-user documentation.

• Demonstrated understanding of projects from the perspective of both client and business
