2017 PSEG Power Energy Career Program

Prince George's County, Maryland

 

The PSEG Power Energy Career Program (ECP) provides selected 2017 graduates of Prince George's County Public Schools with an opportunity to gain knowledge and hands-on experience in energy production activities, engineering and plant operation with a top tier energy company. Students learn under the tutelage of veterans in the industry through classroom instruction, lab work and field trips.

 

Learn

Experience a working knowledge of energy production and electric generation through intensive classroom instruction from experts in the field. At the end of your internship you will have many of the desired qualifications for an entry level position within the energy industry and will have the opportunity to apply for the next phase of the program, a seven month paid internship at the Keys Energy Center.

 

Earn

ECP students receive an hourly wage during their part-time position over the course of two 15 week semesters.

 

Explore

Students will experience the relevance of energy production in their very own county while receiving intensive instruction in electrical production concepts and be presented with opportunities to build their interest with industry experts who will provide guidance and pathways to careers in energy.

 

Required Qualifications:

· The successful candidate (s) will be hired into a temporary position as part of the PSEG Power Energy Career Program.

· ECP is open to 2017 high school seniors of a Prince George's County Public Schools High School.

· Students must reside in Prince George's County and be able to commute to the assigned location as relocation is not available.

· Positions are contingent upon a satisfactory background check and drug screen in accordance with PSEG hiring practices.

 

Required Education/Skills: Successful candidates are current high school seniors in a Prince George's County School.

· GPA information MUST be included on your resume for employment consideration.

· Have a strong Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) background (grades of C or higher in 80% of all science, technology and math classes).

· Students must include official high school transcript for consideration (with attendance record).

· Get two letters of recommendation:

o High school math, science, or technology teacher

o Community member (pastor, employer, etc.)

o Recommendation letters from any family member are not acceptable.

· Complete a statement of Interest (less than 500 words) - State why you are a good candidate for the Energy Career Program and why you should be selected.

 

Compensation:

PSEG Power ECP student roles are paid at an hourly rate of $12.00, however there are no benefits associated with these positions, other than those that are legally mandated. Candidates are expected to work 20 hours per week on the days assigned for instruction.

As an employee of PSE&G or PSEG Long Island, you should be aware that during storm restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions outside of your routine duties and on a schedule that may be different from normal operations.
