Job Summary
GSOC, the Gas System Operations Center, is responsible for the 24x7 monitoring and operation of PSE&G’s Gas Transmission and Distribution System.
The GSOC Gas Systems Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the mission-critical transmission and distribution systems. Responsible for the daily operations activities and coordination with multiple departments to deliver natural gas safely, economically, and efficiently to PSE&G’s customers.
Job Responsibilities
- Monitor and control gate station outlet pressures to achieve the following objectives: control distribution system pressures to ensure the integrity of the system and manage deliveries to match gas supply with demand and forecasted load requirements.
- Monitor gas supplies for heat content, quality and odorization.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with other groups from pipeline suppliers and the field to address system issues.
- Diagnose and respond to system abnormalities.
- Department of Transportation requirements: random drug and alcohol testing, compliance with Operator Qualification rules.
- Must take training to ensure the ability to recognize unusual gas system conditions and respond appropriately.
- Require rotating 12-hour shift schedule and overtime as needed and must maintain a valid U. S. drivers’ license.
Job Specific Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 5 year’s relevant experience in gas distribution, production or equivalent.
- Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule and overtime as needed.
- Practical working knowledge of all gas system components including natural gas metering stations, major gas mains, and gas regulation.
- Demonstrated strong math and estimating skills, a basic understanding of the mechanics of pressure and control systems.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, and to follow written instructions.
- Must be decisive and perform under stress in emergencies and work effectively with others.
- Must be adept at reading maps, blueprints and piping schematics.
- Must be able to identify and respond to all audio and color-coordinated visual alarms.
- Must possess and maintain a valid U. S. drivers’ license and a safe driving record.
- Department of Energy’s regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
Desired:
- Possess computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Internet, Intranet, SAP, etc.)
- Experience in gas control and/or gas scheduling work.
- Candidate demonstrates interest in moving up to GSOC System Operations Supervisor.
