Job Summary

This is a first level supervisory position in Delivery Projects and Construction (DP&C). Our Terri Lane field office is not an official PSE&G property listed in SAP, we often use the Hadley Rd. location in South Plainfield.

Job Responsibilities

  •  Provide supervision for the application of protective relay settings and relay/controls testing for major new, replacement and upgraded electric inside plant facilities. Oversee the activities of Relay Technicians (PSE&G and Contractor) to ensure safe and efficient application of relay settings and associated testing. Supervise the application and testing of relay and controls systems associated with the construction of outside plant distribution facilities, including feeder/tie reclosers. Responsibilities also include work scheduling, outage planning and contractor oversight. Work closely with System Protection to ensure proper application of Relay Test Orders and associated testing. Ensure post energization phasing is completed in a timely manner and results are reviewed by System Protection. Accept DP&C on call coverage obligations and support/assist Divisions in the emergency response and restoration for equipment failures and emergencies. Achieve the desired results of the P&CM Organization through the use of PSEG values, sound management practices and a total commitment to teamwork. Ensure quality and quantity of work performed are in compliance with Company standards, procedures and Safe work practices. Maximize system reliability by ensuring timely and effective planning and scheduling. Counsel associates, as required, and handle First Step Grievance meetings. Assign and direct work to accomplish the desired results in a safe, efficient and expeditious manner. Successful applicant must have experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of electric inside plant facilities. Knowledge of Company/Union Agreement (IBEW) is critical. Maintain and apply working knowledge of PSEG Standards for Business Controls and meet management's expectations for effective internal business controls. Essential: High school graduate or equivalent. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of protective relays and controls systems.

    Must obtain an acceptable score on the First Line Supervisor's Test (FLST) unless presently and directly supervising (i.e. responsible for performance reviews) IBEW operating department associates for a minimum of 12 continuous months. For those who have previously taken and received an acceptable score on the FLST, but who are not presently and directly supervising represented associates, test results will be valid for a maximum period of two years from the date the test was taken. The successful candidate is expected to participate in Distribution's Supervisory Academy. Safety sensitive position. D.O.T. testing required.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience directly related to protective relays and controls systems.
  • Must obtain an acceptable score on the First Line Supervisor's Test (FLST)
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience working with protective relays and controls systems.
  • Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.

  • Must demonstrate and value differences in others' strengths, perspectives, approaches, and personal choices.

 

Desired:

  • Masters Degree in Engineering, Professional Engineer’s License and/or advanced power systems courses/training.
  • Working knowledge of DWMS and other computer applications.
