Hybrid flexible are roles that can be performed remotely but require some level of onsite work/in-person interactions on a regular basis, require employees to live within a commutable distance and, since business needs vary by position and may change over time, managers will set expectations and flexibility regarding where and when work is performed.

Fully remote are roles that can be performed remotely, require employees to live in approved states and will have purpose-driven in-person interactions on occasion.

Job Summary

First level environmental position requiring prior technical work experience in the environmental field. Responsible for day-to-day tasks associated with environmental support of construction project and/or Operations work for the Utility. Provide technical assistance to project or operational management personnel through the application of environmental sciences and/or engineering/business knowledge. Oversee contractors or supports Operations in the management of waste removal in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations. Provide environmental technical and compliance support to Construction Specialists, Supervisors, contractors, and/or Sr. Environmental Specialist (SES) or Resource Recovery Specialist (RRS) in daily compliance activities. Provide daily job site inspection of work to ensure completion in accordance with established designs and procedures, and/or inspections of manned and unmanned substations pertaining to regulatory programs such as Spill Prevention, Containment and Countermeasures (SPCC), storm water, air compliance (emergency generators),and hazardous waste management. Oversees the performance of environmental contractors onsite and laboratory field sampling oversight. Maintain all compliance documents for historical use and develop recommendations for facility compliance. Performs invoice review of services performed to ensure accuracy prior to processing for payment in accordance with Company Policy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Field Task Management - Interact with PSE&G projects performing construction environmental support of Utility construction project work or Operational management personnel and provide technical assistance through the application of environmental regulatory knowledge. Oversight of environmental contractors. Provide environmental compliance oversite for the environmental activities including, assisting with environmental waste management.
  • Provide compliance inspections of existing PSE&G owned or operated equipment/ facilities inclusive to all relevant Federal, State, and local environmental regulations.
  • Regulatory - Provide field guidance and support associated with environmental work being overseen to ensure regulatory compliance and consistent application of environmental policies for adhering with all environmental regulations. 
  • Data Analysis/Reports - Oversee technical aspects of field sampling to support proper classification of waste and project residuals. Confirm proper waste classification prior to shipment based on the analytical data.
  • Financials - Review and sign Time & Material supplier sheets. Provide input for financial accruals and forecasts. Perform invoice review of services performed and approval.
  • Communication – Collect, record, and communicate project activity to the environmental project specialist or associate project manager.
  • Safety – General knowledge and understanding of safe construction practices including but not limited to; excavation & trenching, confined space entry, electrical clearances & hazardous, lock out tag out, scaffolding & ladders, vacuum / roll off truck operation practices. Ability to identify unsafe equipment and work practices; stop the job as necessary to ensure issue is addressed.
  • Emergency Response - Perform on call spill response for PSE&G.

 

You should be aware that, as an employee of PSE&G, during storm restoration and emergency spill response efforts, you may be required to perform functions outside of your routine duties and on a schedule that may be different from normal operations.  

Also, as a member of the Environmental Projects & Services group, off-hours emergency response work will be required.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science-related field or Chemistry. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, associate degree + 2 years’ relevant environmental work experience in engineering, construction, or operations in utility or other field experience, or high school diploma + 4 years' relevant environmental work experience in engineering, construction, or operations in utility or other field experience.
  • Experience with environmental procedural, regulatory and/or compliance requirements
  • Working knowledge of various MS Office computer programs and PC applications, specifically Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Experience communicating and/or working with various stakeholders.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, as well as time management skills.
  • As the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving history.

 
Desired:

  • Strong ability to work independently; must be task oriented, self-motivated, and have the ability to prioritize tasks and manage projects.
  • Knowledge of laboratory data tables, analysis and reporting
  • Previous contractor management experience
  • Proven ability to collate data and produce meaningful reports that can be used for troubleshooting, decision-making or policy/procedure making.
