Job Summary

PSE&G is seeking a new member for the Technical Training team within the Centralized Service organization. The team performs analysis, design, development, evaluation, and delivery of technical training for PSE&G line of business clients.  This position will focus on Substation Mechanic skills training in electric distribution to fulfill the duties of apprentice and incumbent employees in accordance with their job specifications, collective bargaining obligations and regulatory requirements.

This position is on-site at our Edison Training Center in Edison, New Jersey.

Additional on-call / overtime / field assignments can be available as qualified by the Division. 

Job Responsibilities

The Training and Development Specialist will instruct, train, develop, demonstrate safe workplace practices and behaviors for a skilled and efficient utility work force working in connection with a team of training professionals.  The key elements of this role are:

•Conduct classroom presentations and hands-on field instruction and demonstration of safe work practices in electric distribution substation equipment installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
•Work with the Design and Assessment team to develop and maintain technical training materials as a subject matter expert in Substation Mechanic.
•Facilitate technical training assessments/ evaluations across multiple, concurrent electric distribution instructional programs.
•Provide assistance in other instructional areas or activities as needed.
•Collaborate with the Technical Training Manager and internal subject matter experts in support of identifying training needs of the Electric Distribution clients.  
•Work with process owners and process improvement managers across the utility to establish process efficiency.  
•Build strong internal and external relationship with all clients to stay abreast of operational changes relevant to effective training programs.
•Apply training and development processes of analysis, design, development, evaluation, and alternative delivery methods, including eLearning and virtual instruction applications 
•Conduct hands-on training safely across multiple topics using appropriate reference manuals and other resources to instruct employees in Substation Mechanics.  
•Provide client service, be a team player, and excel in communicating both verbally and in writing.  
•Use of tools, resources, and operation of appropriate substation equipment i.e., safety tagging, control prints, test equipment and substation maintenance and inspection.

 

Job Specific Qualifications

Required:

•High school graduate or GED
•Minimum of 7 years of experience in electric substations, components of electric substations, construction in electric substations, maintenance in electric substations, troubleshooting and safe work practices in electric substations.
•At least 5 years of indirect supervisory experience or 3 years of direct supervisory experience
•Over 4 years of training/education experience in electric substations, components of electric substations, construction in electric substations, maintenance in electric substations, troubleshooting and safe work practices in electric substations.
•Demonstrated experience in training/educating others using methodologies: analysis, design, development, evaluation, and alternative delivery methods, including eLearning or virtual instruction applications
•Demonstrated experience in computer applications, including Microsoft Office software
•Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills; capable of making effective oral presentations
•Ability to facilitate joint union / management assessment teams
•Project management related experience
•Experience in Learning Management System use 
•Experience in alternative training delivery methods, including automated, computer-based or virtual / augmented reality applications
•Provide leadership through peer-to-peer coaching/guidance for junior instructors. 
•Facilitate the analysis, design, and evaluation of apprentice and employee technical training
•Understand and explain key training metrics associated with the Manager’s Dashboard
