Job Summary
This is a leader-level engineering position (Grade Level 28) with the expectation of being able to function in a group leader/team leader role, overseeing the work and performance of other MAST associates and/or engineering technicians. Perform engineering and serve as technical lead through the application of engineering and business knowledge. Manage functions of day-to-day operations in all areas of Electric Distribution.
Job Responsibilities
• Function at a Principal Staff Engineer level, within the Electric Operations organization, utilizing a broad knowledge of business and engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience and education. This is a field engineering position with an emphasis on operations, construction, and maintenance environments. This includes applying broad knowledge and experience with electric transmission and distribution operations, familiarity with inside/outside plant assets and experience interpreting electrical and/or civil construction drawings. Duties will include oversight and support of supervision of field forces, supervision/direction of craft/construction and/or engineering personnel in a union environment, work management, project management, as well as other technical, administrative, and leadership duties.
• Other specific areas of focus include: customer inquiries, system planning and reinforcement, “outside plant” engineering of overhead and underground facilities, street lighting, mapping/record management, new business, and facility relocations; coordination and participation in division workload scheduling, estimating project costs, monitoring project costs and implementing controls as required; facilitate and apply process improvement techniques to address gaps identified within Electric Operations; administer the Company/Union labor agreement in accordance with Company policy; represent the Company in negotiating with municipalities, outside contractors, and customers; function as a key team member in the storm restoration processes and be available for scheduled or call-out overtime. Must possess demonstrated leadership skills, professionalism, and customer/client focus. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil, industrial) or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related discipline, or in lieu of a degree, high school diploma with 6 years of related experience.
• At least 6 years of experience within utility industry, which may include electric transmission and distribution operations, familiarity with inside/outside plant assets and/or experience in interpreting electrical or civil construction drawings.
• Thorough knowledge of business and engineering principles and practices.
• Knowledge of applicable industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, ANSI, DOT, OSHA, etc.) and practices.
• Ability to work independently on most technical issues.
• Experience directly supervising craft/construction personnel.
• Demonstrated ability to manage medium to large projects.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and effective decision-making abilities
• Strong planning and organizing skills; must be adaptable to dynamic situations and be results-oriented.
• Clearly demonstrated individual and team leadership on critical projects or initiatives.
• Valid U.S. driver's license.
Desired:
• Advanced degree in Business Management or Engineering.
• 3-5 years of experience managing small to moderate projects.
• Proficient in reading one-line controls diagrams and Outside Plant Construction Prints.
• Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
