Job Summary
Provide technical support for the Component Engineering (CE) Branch at Salem Generating Station in the identification, investigation, and resolution of plant operating, safety and design issues to ensure equipment reliability and availability. CE focuses on the health of key components while maintaining a tactical focus. This requisition seeks an engineer that will focus on supporting mechanical valve systems and will serve as the subject matter expert for valves. As a member of the CE branch, you will be responsible to develop and provide technical input to other departments when assisting with troubleshooting, analyzing performance data using predictive maintenance technologies, providing PM program oversight, and scope and work prioritization. Additionally, as a member of the CE team you will advocate for corrective actions as well as strategic improvements by establishing and maintaining long term project requests in efforts to maintain components through end of plant life. Working as part of the CE team, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional groups including maintenance, operations, work management and safety to optimize valve performance across the plant. This role is required to support outage engineering and participate in the Emergency Response Organization. The successful candidate will also perform other assigned duties as determined by the Salem Engineering Response Team Branch Manager. Will be responsible for balancing work time to accomplish assigned tasks.
Job Responsibilities
- Developing mechanical technical evaluations, e.g., temporary leak repairs, freeze seal evaluations, bolting, torquing and gasket evaluations, etc.
- Monitoring, trending and assessing system, program and component health to improve equipment and plant reliability
- Championing strategic improvements to components
- Support maintenance and work management by resolving engineering technical issues within associated processes, including simple troubleshooting support
- Lead complex troubleshooting teams and support simple troubleshooting activities to identify the cause of issues and prevent recurrence
- Providing support to the design, development and installation of strategic, emergent and temporary modifications in the plant
- Develop & communicate schedules for deliverables with contract Engineers, Project Managers and your Supervisor
- Identify, prioritize and support other plant processes and programs, including the corrective action program, operability determination, adverse condition monitoring and operational decision-making processes
- Perform filed support of plant activities and conducting paired or individual walkdowns
- Ensure component readiness and compliance with design/licensing basis
- Provide innovative and strategic recommendations to support regulatory and industry changes
- Perform other engineering duties as determined by engineering leadership
- Support of Emergency Response Organization
Job Specific Qualifications
- BS Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Engineering
- Strong ability to organize, document and communicate, both oral and written
- Ability to support shift work during plant outages and generation challenges
- Ability to gain unescorted access to a nuclear power plant
- Attend and represent PSEG at industry seminars, trainings and meetings
- Must meet nuclear requirements for Unescorted Site Access.
- A valid Real ID or an approved form of alternate documentation (https://www.pseg.com/IDrequirement) is required for this job. Must provide appropriate documentation to meet access requirements on the date of hire.
- Compliance with the Department of Energy’s regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
Desired
- Nuclear experience at a Nuclear Power Plant
- Experience managing reliability of mechanical systems and components
- Experience in troubleshooting mechanical or valve systems
- Familiarity with MOV/AOV diagnostics, valve actuators, and testing methodologies
- Working knowledge of ASME Code (Section III, XI), IEEE standards, and NRC requirements
