Job Summary
The Engineering Services Turbine Engineer reports to the Engineering Services Manager to provide subject matter expert technical support for the Salem and Hope Creek station turbine equipment. This includes large steam high-pressure and low-pressure turbines, as well as multiple small to medium-sized industrial turbines.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise and oversight of station turbine health and reliability through preventative maintenance strategies and long-term asset management plans.
- Provide project support and vendor oversite for all aspects of large steam turbine retrofits.
- Determine the required scope of work and explore alternative solutions.
- Review procurement specifications, modification packages, and factory and field testing for quality.
- Perform vendor oversight shop visits during equipment manufacture and refurbishment.
Provide field support during minor and major inspections, modifications, repairs, and testing. - Develop and review test procedures to ensure equipment functionality.
- Interface with the cross-department stakeholders including Project Management, Operations, Work Management, Maintenance, Design / Plant Engineering, and Licensing.
- Interface with system engineers to ensure adequate systems integration including preventive maintenance and surveillance program requirements.
- Participate as a member of the site thermal performance monitoring team to identify losses in plant efficiency and coordinate to have repairs performed to optimize plant electrical output.
- Provide general engineering support for other mechanical power plant equipment as needed.
- Provide onsite support as needed during station refueling or forced outage conditions.
- Qualify as a member of the site emergency response organization.
- As an employee of PSE&G, during storm/outage restoration efforts, may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and the regular work schedule. May also be required to work in an alternate location.
Job Specific Qualifications
- BS Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Chemical Engineering or related technical degree with a minimum of 15 years performing related Engineering work in a nuclear or power-generation industry (including experience in specific discipline).
- Experience in turbine operation and design with a power plant or vendor.
- Work effectively with a team to achieve team goals.
- Support or manage large-scale plant modifications.
- Independently multi-task and resolve conflicting priorities.
- Demonstrated communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated project management skills including Microsoft product usage (Excel, Word, Power Point).
- Must meet Nuclear requirements for unescorted site access.
- Compliance with the Department of Energy’s regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
- A valid Real ID or an approved form of alternate documentation. (https://www.pseg.com/IDrequirement) is required for this job.
Desired
- Completion of a turbine field engineer training program by a turbine OEM or equivalent.
- Project Management experience and/or certification.
- Turbine replacement/retrofit/uprate experience.
Experience performing plant performance testing (e.g. ASME PTC-6, ASME PTC-12, or equivalent). - System engineering/test engineer experience and/or qualification.
- BWR/PWR SRO license or Certification.
- Professional Engineer License.
