Under the direction of the Manager - Power Program Operations this position is responsible for operational support for feed-in tariffs and administration of PPA
contract as it relates to performance of the electric supply system on Long lsland.

This is a multi-level growth series position, the title, grade level and incentive target assigned to the successful candidate will be determined by assessing skills and related experience, learned through the interview process.
If an internal candidate is selected they will move laterally at their current grade level and will not be eligible for a promotion at the time of accepting this position.  This applies to candidates moving within the same career path (e.g., analyst, supervisor, engineer), or to a different career path (e.g., analyst to engineer, supervisor to analyst).  The selected candidate will have an opportunity to be promoted within the career path during an annual review.

 

Job Responsibilities

This position are responsible for the support of the Smart Grid Small Generator Interconnection Procedures for the our distribution system including the new cost sharing mechanism for the allocation of developer costs and assignment of those costs to developers and to our rate-payers. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop system which identifies various categories of projects for cost sharing including substation upgrades, transformers, distribution line upgrades and secondary network upgrades
  • Establishment of KW size and $dollar thresholds for the above categories
  • Define the first mover which triggers a need for system modifications and assigns 100% of those costs to that developer with cost threshold categories being established
  • Develop system and process which identifies costs to rate-payers, with minimum 25% ratepayer protection
  • Create a system which tracks those costs, so that subsequent movers can bear cost responsibility & reimburse the 1st mover
  • For those subsequent movers, identify the upgrade costs which their responsible for
  • Equitably allocate costs to each developer interconnected on the same substation

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or other Engineering field associated with power plant operations is required with 2+ years of related work experience.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills as well as ability to travel to attend off-site generating unit tests, and meetings on and off Long lsland is required.
  • Ability to respond to emergency storm and other conditions requires work during nights and weekend.

 

Desired 

  • Excellent analytical skills with superior attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of MS office including Excel.
  • An advanced degree, MBA or PE License or fundamentals of engineering is preferred.
  • Familiarity with power plant operations and testing is preferred along with knowledge of the NYISO rules and processes, as well as knowledge of renewable energy plant development, construction and operation.
