The position involves performing the highest skilled work associated with test, repair, maintenance, installation and operation of all types of instruments, meters and test apparatus throughout the LIPA and PSEG Long Island system.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and perform standard and non-routine tests, which involve collection, graphing and analyzing data and preparation of reports. Includes test and repair of electric instruments and the inspection, acceptance and standardization tests of such items as leakage test, hi-potential test of Current Transformer’s and Voltage Transformer’s, calibration and repair of primary standards and test boards and new solid state electronic metering and telecommunication products.
  • Assemble complicated apparatus working from electrical diagrams and sketches and manage equipment and devices for special tests or installation at PSEG Long Island and other customer locations. Instruct and direct lower classification personnel on the job to perform required duties. Perform functions with minimum supervision in the Lab, Electric Shop, in the field and on LIPA customer or PSEG Long Island Corporation property.  
  • Investigate and determine the cause of radio and television interference through the utilization of electronic and mechanical testing equipment. Discuss with customers or their agents the cause of interference and means of eliminating it. Eliminate interference caused by company facilities, which includes coordinating the activities of other departments. Represent the company at meetings with consumer groups, and civic associations. Prepare reports regarding the cause and elimination of interference. Maintain daily work logs and monthly activity reports. 
  • Calibration and repair of primary standards and solid state test boards used to determine equipment accuracy.
  • Test and repair of programming equipment used with solid state electronic metering systems.
  • Calibrate, diagnose, troubleshoot and repair microprocessor based solid state load research, telecommunication and automatic meter reading equipment.                           
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair all types of microprocessor based instrumentation used by operating departments throughout the company.
  • Evaluation testing, programming and analysis of new microprocessor based metering and instrumentation.
  • Repair and maintain electronic circuitry for PSEG Long Island/LIPA’s Electric Car fleet.
  • Perform all lower classification work within the division.
