Job Summary

The Manager Material and Logistics is responsible for overseeing all PSEG Long Island inventory and materials management policies, objectives, and compliance functions.  The person in this position creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-functions and develops budgets, policies, and procedures to support the functional infrastructure.  Manages a team of supervisors responsible for eight warehouse locations and a workforce of union stock handlers/truck drivers and analysts supporting the utility lines of business in executing their respective business plans.

Job Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all aspects of PSEG Long Islands’ utility supply chain and logistics functions.
• Provide leadership and guidance relative to the day-to-day and strategic operations. Coach staff to achieve goals by clearly communicating the metrics by which success is measured in each area of the business, with additional focus on Supervisor development. Ensure training goals and objectives are met for newly hired associates. Provide thoughtful and regular professional development feedback.
• Support a solution oriented multi-year strategic inventory management/warehouse management system roadmap aligned with LIPA Board adopted ERP and inventory management resolutions.  Oversee the tactical development, execution, and reporting or project implementation plans.
• Lead by example to create a work environment that promotes a high level of engagement and accountability, skill-building, efficiency, and communication, driving excellence in productivity and quality.
• Generate and distribute regular dashboard reports highlighting KPIs, potential risks, recommendations, and action plans.
• Develop and maintain reports to monitor and manage inventory levels; analyze and coordinate variables including material master stock levels, delivery lead-time, backorders, and order fill rate. Efficiently manage competing demands to optimize the supply chain and meet business needs.
• Design, schedule and manage physical inventory audits and cycle counts: schedule, process, and tools to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
• Oversee the methodology, development, implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures, and systems to support all aspects of Inventory and Logistics management, including communication between internal and external partners to ensure accurate flow of information between groups, solution-oriented decision making and timely action. Lead strategy to ensure plans are system driven and scalable. Maintain and/or establish relevant SOPs.
• Drive lean activities and continuous improvement initiatives. Create action plans with defined metrics for optimal performance of all Inventory and Logistics activity. Recommend strategies promoting accuracy, agility, responsiveness, business continuity and resilience.
• Advance Supply Chain and Logistics related time and costs reductions through effective leadership, people and resource management, operational efficiencies, supplier management.
• Work with the Company’s Internal Audit and Accounting Services departments to ensure proper operation of the department.  Manage data integrity.
• Coordinate with the company’s Procurement department and Standards personnel on selection and sourcing of materials and establishing FEMA compliant contracts.
• Promote and support Company policies and ensure compliance with Company and government safety regulations, Sarbanes-Oxley and department internal controls. Provide feedback and training to team members when necessary.
• Creatively problem solve for issues that affect the department, communicating proposed solutions to the Director T&D Services and collaborating to a final result.

 

 

Job Specific Qualifications

Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Supply Chain, Logistics, Materials Management, Business or Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of relevant utility experience.  In lieu of a degree, 12 years of relevant utility experience.
• Minimum 3 years’ of relevant management experience in Supply Chain Management, Demand Planning, or Business Operations.
• Solid knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Material Resource Planning (MRP), and/or Inventory Control systems Knowledge of Materials Management, logistics, and warehouse or storeroom operations.
• Deep experience gaining consensus among a large, diverse group of stakeholders.
• Proven record of operational excellence and providing outstanding customer service.
• Proven change management effectiveness.
• Project management experience.
• Proficiency in MS Office products such as Excel, Word, and Power Point.
• Strong organizational, team and relationship building skills.
• Strong safety advocate for department and company through participation at Safety Councils throughout the company.
• Strong business and financial acumen, with proven experience in measurement, benchmarking, data analysis, and interpretation.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a key set of performance metrics to drive organizational efficiency.
• Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, the hired candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
 
Desired:
• Experience leading bargaining unit associates in a warehouse/logistics operation.
• Master Degree in a related area.
• 5-8 years’ experience in developing and leading a supply chain or logistics organization.
