Position Description:

 

As the Underground Transmission Engineer, you will perform engineering and design to ensure successful completion of large-scale underground electric transmission projects. (The successful candidate will report to our Hicksville, NY office and will be assigned primarily to projects on the East End of Long Island).

 

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Develop and evaluate the design of electric transmission systems and related facilities based upon reliability and economy with consideration to operation, safety and maintenance requirements.
  • Develop material, engineering design, construction specifications/associated drawings, and standards as required for successful completion of assigned transmission projects.
  • Develop, review and revise standards as a result of recommendations by industry associations (e.g. IEEE, EEI, ANSI, etc.) related to state of the art materials and engineering/operating methods.  Participate in R&D initiatives, evaluate and procure new materials/equipment to improve performance of the electric transmission system.
  • Work with internal and external organizations/customers to ensure prudent engineering solutions are undertaken to special engineering and construction projects.
  • Provide construction and project management assistance with underground transmission projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to Operations, Project Management, Planning, Customer Services Departments, and external customers in support of the LIPA underground transmission system.
  • Evaluate the application and use of materials, equipment and new technologies on the underground transmission system.

 

Education and Qualifications:

 

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Knowledge of engineering design and analysis.
  • Progressive engineering and construction related work experience 
  • Strong interpersonal, communications, writing and administrative skills. 
  • Strong analytical and computer skills.
  • Willing to travel to locations within service territory - primarily Hicksville with approximately 10% of field project work on east end of Long Island
  • This position requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.

 

 

DESIRED:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A New York State Professional Engineering license 
  • Knowledge of engineering design and analysis of underground electric transmission systems including 23-345 KV pipe type cable and solid dielectric cable systems.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and TeamCenter Enterprise.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and other related guidelines related to electric transmission system engineering, design and operation.  Familiarity with Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) guidelines.
  • This position may require driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.

This is a multi-level growth series position, the title, grade level and incentive target assigned to the successful candidate will be determined by assessing skills and related experience, learned through the interview process.
