The position is part of the new utility of the future (UoF) group, and is responsible to meet NYS Reforming Energy Vision (REV) objectives as they evolve in the New York regulatory environment.  This group is expected to evolve consistent with the Distributed System Implementation Plan (DSIP) structure in other NYS utilities to fully integrate REV opportunities and build on its experience for the future. It is envisioned the PSEG LI UoF function will grow to support incremental workload associated with development of various aspects of REV/DSIP/Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER), notably to support various engineering and analytical effort to realize system optimizations associated with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) rollout and VDER. This organization integrates infrastructure planning, innovative/demonstration projects and makes strategic decisions required to move towards the grid of the future.


Duties and responsibilities included but are not limited to:
• Supports the development of  Distributed System Implementation Plan (DSIP) for Long Island consistent with the Public Service Commission’s order adopting DSIP guidance. 
• Implement the new forecast models necessary to support the DSIP Implementation. This effort entails the development of temporal and locational substation and feeder forecast and modify as necessary to address new DER and lump loads by closely working with the forecasting group and with the distribution planning group. This effort also involves the adoption of probabilistic planning principals consistent with industry best practices used by Con Edison and other NY utilities. 
• Provide DSIP technical support and conduct applicable studies to integrate new capabilities and grid intelligence with design and optimization of the existing system. This includes the utilization of AMI data and other system data to produce engineering models and perform optimization and design studies and recommend operating efficiencies and system changes. This position is responsible to deliver voltage studies and develop strategies to manage impact of inverter associated with higher penetration of DER’s.  
• Deliver a comprehensive locational value study, which implements a granular approach and location study of load information vis-a-vis T&D system limitations that would provide PSEG Long Island with more precise information needed to provide incentives for DER solutions and for the evaluation of potential NWS projects.
•  Recommend and lead the utility of Future Policy & Demonstration Projects to further demonstrate PSEGLI leadership and commitment to DSIP/REV initiatives by more actively supporting industry collaborations and participation on various industry and stakeholder working groups (e.g. Joint Utilities) , and further supporting related initiatives including VDER.    
• Support the DSIP filing for the 2019 U2.0 filing and responsible for delivering certain portions of 2018 U2.0 filing which is new forecast models, Volt Var Optimization Study (VVO),  and locational value study  
• Participate in the Joint Utilities’ ongoing work efforts, especially those tied to advancing methodologies in integrated distribution system planning, in order to advance shared learning, better align on best practices, and in some cases align on regulatory interface. 
 • Improved coordination of DSIP /VDER (Value of Distributed Energy Resources) deployment among various internal groups (e.g. Energy Efficiency, Finance & Rates, Transmission Planning, Distribution Planning, Power Markets and PAM groups



Education and skills



• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.  
• Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills as well as ability to travel to attend meetings on and off Long Island 
• Desire to handle challenging projects and the ability to quickly come up to speed is essential. 
• Desire to learn new concepts and attention to details is critical to be successful in this position.  
• Ability to respond to emergency storm and other conditions requires field work during nights and weekend.

• This position requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.



• A Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, MBA or PE License is preferred.  
• Experience in distribution planning is preferred
• Knowledge of Python Programming is preferred
• Knowledge of electric transmission, resource, substation, and distribution systems and equipment is preferred.  
• Familiarity with  distribution system planning models (Cyme) for load flow, short circuit, voltage, and contingency analyses is preferred, as well as knowledge of engineering economics fundamentals necessary to evaluate alternative system proposals.
