This position reports to the Customer Services Manager, Health & Safety and provides leadership, administration and implementation for PSEGLI Customer Service Operations' Safety Program by establishing and maintaining accountability for industrial health and safety performance and associated training programs for PSEGLI Customer and Meter Service Operations locations.  It establishes safety, health and training programs under the direction of the Customer Services’ Safety Program Manager and provides technical oversight, guidance and administrative support to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations pertaining to employee safety and health across the various locations.

This position implements actions to manage loss control and accident prevention activities, while ensuring compliance.  It is also responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of safety programs, strategies, policies, training, and procedures and is responsible and accountable for improvement in year over year health and safety scorecard measures and progress toward top decile Customer Operations’ H&S performance.  Overall, the position works to establish and promote maintenance of a safe, accident-free, and healthy work environment by performing the following duties. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate safety process efforts across the Customer and Meter Services Organization.
  • Ensure audits are completed on a regular basis for office areas, warehouse, and job sites to detect existing or potential risks and hazards.  Ensure any recommended corrective or preventative measures are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Participate in investigation of incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented and completed on a timely basis.
  • Ensure contractors and subcontractors have implemented an effective safety process by conducting pre-qualifications and by visiting/auditing job sites on a regular basis.
  • Visit job sites on a regular basis to ensure effective implementation of the safety process.
  • Ensure all safety related records are accurately maintained and in compliance with OSHA or other regulatory agency rules and regulations and American Standard procedures.
  • Implement applicable safety policies and procedures to be followed in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Analyze safety data to lead and coordinate the safety effort for continual improvement.
  • Ensure safety and health training is organized and delivered effectively.
  • Train employees on PSEGLI’s safety programs and enforce compliance.
  • Participate on an ongoing basis as needed and assist in the development of safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate on Safety Committees and meet on a regular basis to complete any action items in a timely manner.

 

Required skills:

  • BS/BA in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering or a Technical discipline with a minimum of 4 years work experience with safety related responsibilities within the utility or related industry; Or
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum 8 years of experience with safety related responsibilities within the utility or similar industry
  • Proven ability to influence and change safety culture preferably within a union environment.
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Proven ability to take innovative approaches to improve processes and solve problems.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to communicate with all levels of the organization; this includes making presentations and designing training modules.
  • Experience performing field audits, inspections and assessments.
  • Experience working with management to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Strong analytical capability with experience reviewing existing work procedures to establish methodologies and procedures to improve safety operations.
  • This position requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.

 

Desired skills:

  • CSP, CUSP, CIH, OSHT or CUSA certification preferred.
  • Defensive driving certification skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and relevant consensus standards i.e. ANSI, ASTM, NFPA, etc.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • Prior EH&S experience or Training and Operational in the Meter Services environment is strongly preferred.
  • Six Sigma experience is preferred, Green Belt Certification a plus.
  • Prior experience of inspecting electrical systems.
