Summer Interns: College students are hired based on strategic university recruiting needs as identified on an annual basis. The intern period is a minimum of 10 weeks, beginning June 3, 2019 and ending Mid- August.
 

Duties include (but not limited to):

 

  • Daily responsibilities include checking Distribution Automation System and verifying communications to distribution equipment, repeaters, fiber links and Ethernet channels.  Supporting the process of coordinating and issuing of repairs of equipment with various areas of the transmission and distribution unit.
  • Distribution Automation Group is responsible for configuring systems and concentrators that communicate out to end devices that control the flow of power on feeders to isolate faults.  The expansion of the system requires constant need for programming and commissioning for new devices being added to the system.  The position will support in the roll-out of new configurations and commissioning of new equipment in the field.
  • Current plants for the rollout of the new OSI DSCADA System is on track for year end 2019 and significant effort is needed in supporting the development of new training documents, practical exercises and hands-on materials that will be used to train Electric Service Operator personnel.  Additional efforts include the verification of the new OSI Database, Network and workstation address verification, OSI PI interface checks, Geographic Information system validation and Energy Management System Breaker link connectivity.
  • Support the engineers in the programming of 2 way CBC8000 controllers used to monitor and control capacitor banks and readying the system for summer prep availability of 93% of the banks system-wide.  Opportunities to visit field locations observing work being performed by Electric Service personnel, Overhead Line crews and Radio technicians.
  • During major weather events, assist in the control room and field to support storm restoration efforts responding to customer outages.

     

Education and Qualifications:

Required:

  • College level rising Juniors and Seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher seeking an Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering degree.
  • Knowledge of Networking / TCP / IP, software scripting/programming and communication systems.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • This position requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
