Job Summary

Provide leadership and supervision for the design of PSE&G projects within the Electric Transmission Engineering organization by utilizing a broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience.  This position has overall responsibility to support the design and  coordination of Electric T&D -  Projects and Construction’s infrastructure projects.  The incumbent will be responsible for preparing detailed structural calculations and specifications for foundations and structures supporting all associated electrical equipment and other items within a substation for conformance to PSE&G standards and applicable design criteria.  These include, but are not limited to: oil filled transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, A-frames, Dead-end Structures, pre-fabricated buildings, isolation and retaining walls.  Perform drainage and land development design and calculations.  Coordinate and oversee complex design projects and coordinate with Electrical Layout Designers, Licensing and Permitting Group, Asset Experts, Vendors, Project Managers, construction and operating personnel, consultants and contractors to develop the design in conformance with the project schedule.

Job Responsibilities

Responsible for the management of project workload, including Civil, Architectural and Mechanical design drawings for multiple large and small-scale Inside Plant projects.  Oversee the development of civil and structural detailed drawings using MicroStation V8i software.  Prepare calculations and drawing submittals for obtaining permits for the construction of projects.  Must demonstrate leadership in their role and have the ability to stand-in for the Group’s supervisor when required.  Make critical design decisions and provide solutions for replacement of failed equipment on emergency basis.  Develop estimates and schedules for civil design work for new and emergency projects.  Conduct field investigations at substations to verify job-site existing conditions.  Act as a primary interface with multiple Consulting-Engineering firms for project work that is outsourced, and assure that PSE&G standards are maintained by these firms. 

Candidate must have the initiative and ability to work independently on most issues with limited supervision as well as demonstrated ability to manage multiple issues and projects.  Proven ability to effectively interact with internal and external groups and clearly display individual and team leadership on critical projects and initiatives. 

As an employee of PSE&G, you should be aware that during Strom/Outage restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and your regular work schedule. You may also be required to work in an alternate location.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
•    B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering
•    A minimum of six (6) years of experience in civil structural site plan design
•    Registered Professional Engineer in New Jersey
•    Experience with NJ regulatory and licensing requirements, including environmental, zoning, planning and construction codes  
•    Experience with the preparation, review and submission of civil design calculations, plans / prints
•    Familiar with Civil Engineering codes – NJIBC, ACI & AISC
•    Strong individual initiative and ability to work independently on most technical issues
•    Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills
•    As the job requires driving to Company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving history

Preferred / Desired Skills:

•    Advanced Technical or Engineering Degree or MBA
•    Supervisory / leadership experience
•    Advanced technical training
•    Experience providing testimony to Municipal Authorities
•    Working Knowledge of Staad Pro, HEC-RAS, L-Pile, SAG-10 or similar Civil design software
