Job Summary

The Cloud Technology Architect is responsible for leading Cloud computing initiatives within the company and for directing the architectural aspects of Cloud Services implementation across Information Technology and the business. The Cloud Technology Architect builds and communicates the organizational strategy for how Cloud computing will be leveraged within the Company and the use cases in which the organization will derive the most business value. This role will provide thought leadership and strategic direction for all Cloud Infrastructure related activities, which includes AWS Infrastructure as a Service, Microsoft Azure Infrastructure as a Service, Microsoft Azure Platform as a Service, Cloud management tools and services, and cloud backup services. The Cloud Technology Architect will also support the development of cloud governance policies, strategic cloud provider selection, and application placement decisions.

Please note this position is hybrid, comprised of remote and in office work.  PSEG reserves the right to amend the hybrid model at any time.

 

Job Responsibilities

•    Leading Cloud strategy, architectural direction, and product roadmap development
•    Partnering and collaborating with key stakeholders across IT and internal lines of business to understand and translate goals and objectives into architecture, roadmaps, and capability models
•    Leading strategy development, opportunity identification, and communication of business outcomes achieved through technology architecture and the associated use-cases in which the organization will derive the most value
•    Compiling and analyzing business and technical requirements from stakeholders and recommending appropriate technical designs that align with the client’s requirements, the company’s technical strategy, and provide the most efficient and cost effective solution
•    Providing technical guidance and leadership to inform and aid evaluation and decision-making in technology investments through the development of 5-Year Life Cycle & Strategic Investment Plans, Total Cost of Ownership analyses, and business cases
•    Understanding the business's economic and financial levers that are susceptible to digital transformation, so as to effectively support and guide technology investment decisions
•    Developing product enhancement plans, delegating tasks as appropriate, and providing direction and guidance to internal team members and vendor resources on design, implementation, processes, and client communications 
•    Developing standards, guidelines, and procedures that ensure architectural quality and lead to the achievement of business outcomes
•    Providing architectural direction for DR/BCP planning, based on review and evaluation of current cloud architecture and design
•    Supporting development of cloud governance policies and cost management procedures and plans
•    Providing strategic direction for Infrastructure as Code automation to promote continuous improvement of the team, the PSEG cloud infrastructure, and business outcomes 
•    Designing and deploying cloud reference architecture, as well as documenting all architecture design and analysis work 
•    Identifying the organizational impact (e.g. skills, processes, structures, or culture) and financial impact of architectural changes
•    Developing criteria for cloud provider evaluation, comparison and selection, and collaborating with procurement to assess strategic partner/provider viability and risk
•    Developing and maintaining cloud decision models
 

Job Specific Qualifications

Required Skills, Competencies, Education or Experience:
•    Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field of study, or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 5 years of relevant  experience
•    6+ years of experience in the design and implementation of complex IT solutions (including scalable cloud-based solutions). Minimum of 8 years of experience in the design and implementation of complex IT solutions for Principal Technology Architect. 
•    In-depth knowledge of Cloud and infrastructure components (server, storage, network, data, and applications), security best practices, and automation technologies to deliver end-to-end Cloud Infrastructure architectures and designs
•    Ability to articulate the technical merits and business value of cloud computing, as well as experience leading cultural change for cloud adoption and coordinating cloud adoption processes
•    Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services
•    In-depth knowledge of Infrastructure as Code development/implementation
•    Understanding of strategic technology trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to new/evolving business and operating models
•    Extensive experience providing client consulting and leadership to solve complex business problems with enterprise-grade IT solutions, utilizing a thorough understanding of available technology, existing system designs, and regulatory requirements
•    Experience with business case financial analysis, Total Cost of Ownership, and cost management strategies
•    Experience performing gap analysis and developing IT investment roadmaps that reflect current and proposed state of existing IT infrastructure and its ability to contribute to business capabilities
•    Advanced technology and strategic business acumen, as well as a demonstrated ability to engage in senior level technology discussions related to IT strategic investment decisions
•    Proven ability to manage and work with external vendors, including vendor selection, evaluation, and contract evaluation
•    Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills, as well as analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
•    Strong leadership skills and track record of taking on ownership in area of responsibility

Desired:
•    Master’s Degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field of study
•    Relevant Industry certifications such as Amazon Web Services Solutions Architect/Developer, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect/Developer/Administrator, etc.
•    Experience with Agile and DevOps methods and processes
•    Knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, cost-benefit analysis, budgeting and risk management.
•    Knowledge of Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), Platform as a service (PaaS), Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), Microservices, Event-driven IT, and Data Analytics
•    Familiarity with Information Management Practices, System Development Life Cycle Management, IT Services Management, Infrastructure and Operations, and Enterprise Architecture, and ITIL frameworks
