Job Summary
The Technology Engineer is involved in the full technology life cycle and responsible for designing, coding, configuring, testing, implementing and supporting software, hardware and systems for the Linux environment. Technology Engineers work closely with Analysts and Product Managers to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and physical design of technical solutions. This position involves creating new technology-based solutions and providing senior guidance to sourced support activities including upgrades, maintenance, and patching or issue resolution to existing technology solutions. This position will leverage Ansible to create and support Infrastructure as Code for delivering Linux solutions and problem resolution.
Job Responsibilities
•Red Hat Linux administration with emphasis on configuring, building systems, cluster installation, and server patching for critical regulatory environments
•Creating and supporting Ansible automation for Linux and Infrastructure tasks and deployments
•Evaluating, upgrading, and installing new Linux OS releases
•Ensuring Linux OS environments meet security and QA standards
•Linux deployments and support on AWS and Azure cloud platforms
•Determining best-fit and lower cost alternatives to Red Hat Linux or Microsoft Windows for business requirements (Amazon Linux)
•Diagnose and resolve hardware issues with assistance of vendors
•Job scheduling and administration with IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS / Maestro)
•Management of monitoring tools such as SolarWinds
•Perform backup & recovery activities and support Disaster Recovery (DR) drills
•Infrastructure Application support for Satellite / Spacewalk for patching, Cyber Security Tools (Carbon Black, SEP, FireEye, Tripwire, Forcepoint, Industrial Defender), EMC Networker, BlueCat IPAM, Ping LDAP, and RSA SecureID
•On-call rotations and support is required when support vendor requires engineering assistance
•Creates, maintains, and updates process flowcharts, diagrams, drawings, and other related documentation
•Evaluates existing technology solutions and platforms and provides recommendations for improving technology performance by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of needed modifications.
Job Specific Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and at least 6 years of experience in an operational role focusing on Linux / UNIX OS Administration
•Without a bachelor’s degree, at least 10 to 12 years of experience in an operational role focusing on Linux / UNIX OS Administration
•Extensive knowledge of the Linux / UNIX based operating systems, shells, technologies, file systems, and standard utilities
•Understanding of Networking, TCP/IP, Active Directory, NTP, DNS, and DHCP
•Demonstrated use of Ansible Automation Technology
•Ability to analyze various metrics to ensure that the functionality and performance meets all product and service level requirements
•Demonstrated track record of implementing technology solutions using structured methodologies such as Agile (SCRUM, Kanban etc.) and Waterfall.
•Ability to work independently and multi-task effectively
•Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Ability to foster working relationships and collaborate at all levels of the organization including with team members, peers, management, key stakeholders, and business clients
•Demonstrated leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills
Desired:
•Knowledge of Virtualization Technologies, specifically VMware
•Hands-on experience with Ansible automation
•Hands-on experience with RHEL 7 and 8
•Hands-on experience with Amazon Linux
•Hands-on experience with UNIX or AIX
•Experience with Service Now, EMC Storage Area Network (SAN) Technology, Linux clustering, IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS / Maestro), SolarWinds, Bluecat IPAM, Ping LDAP, and/or RSA SecurID.
•Red Hat Systems Administrator (RHCSA) and AWS Certifications
