Job Summary

We are looking for an individual with extensive hands-on experience with setting up, configuring, automating, and supporting data lake and analytics services in Amazon Web Services.   

The Senior Technology Engineer – AWS Data Lake is involved in the full technology life cycle and is responsible for designing, coding, configuring, testing, implementing and supporting Amazon Web Services data lake and analytics services. . Senior Technology Engineers work closely with Analysts, Product Managers, and the business to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and physical design of technical solutions in AWS data lake services.  Senior Technology Engineer is responsible for creating reference architectures, best practices and procedures. Senior Technology Engineers may be assigned  both implementation and support functions. Implementation involves creating new technology based solutions whereas support involves upgrades, maintenance or issue resolution to existing technology solutions.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities are:
• Demonstrates an understanding of concepts, best practices and functions to implement data lake and analytics services in AWS, including AWS Glue, AWS Sagemaker, AWS Redshift, S3, CloudFormation, Lambda, EC2, and EBS.   
• Ability to understand and implement user requirements along with troubleshooting experience of the data lake and analytics services in AWS.
• Reviews of automated solutions and provide feedback to team members.
• Serves as technical mentor to team members and non-technical super users.   
• Develops, implements, and oversees data lake’s and analytics’ infrastructure best practice policies and procedures.
• Performs analysis of end user’s needs, business and technology requirements in data lake and analytics infrastructure / AWS technology areas.  Translates those into technology solution capabilities. 
• Design, configuration, development, documentation and testing of infrastructure / AWS technology solutions to meet business or technology requirements in the data lake and analytics areas. 
• Evaluates existing technology solutions to determine fit for the new requirements. Recommends solution and technology alternatives. Collaborates with other stakeholders to ensure proper integration of the new technology solution(s) with the existing technology solution(s) and processes.  Work is technically difficult, requiring innovative and creative solutions and frequently involves multiple platforms, software, technologies and tools including public and private cloud-related resources.
• Creates technology solutions based on a disciplined process, including meeting all security requirements, QA standards, product and service operating requirements.  Works with stakeholders to deliver business outcomes by executing projects through the Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC) inclusive of identifying, specifying and analyzing business requirements and processes.  Managing progress throughout the design, test and implementation processes such as change management.  
• Documents capabilities and all changes to new or existing components and associated test activities and test results.
• Performs related duties as assigned or requested


Job Specific Qualifications


• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) for example) plus 6 years of professional technology solution engineering in AWS with significant portion in the areas of data lake and analytics.
• Demonstrated scripting skills in Python to meet extensive technical or business requirements
• Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining AWS Cloud Formation Templates
• Deep knowledge and experience with core AWS services including: EC2, EBS, S3, and Lambda
• Demonstrated experience with AWS data and analytics services including: Glue, Sagemaker, Redshift etc. etc.
• Demonstrated experience developing and deploying AWS solutions following the AWS Well-Architected Framework
• Demonstrated experience taking business analytics requirements and recommending best fit solutions in AWS
• Knowledge of system monitoring tools and commands to ensure quick and efficient resolution of issues.
• Exposure to cybersecurity concepts and best practices.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities through technology solution ownership and adoption, projects or other work experiences. 
• Demonstrated experience translating business outcomes, business requirements and technical requirements into technical designs for new technology solutions or enhancements to existing technology solutions, while following architectural standards and organizational policies
• Demonstrated experience documenting technical solutions or business and system process flow techniques using applicable methods such as engineering drawings, UML (e.g. Use Case Diagrams, Activity Diagrams, Entity Relationship Diagrams) etc.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and multi-task effectively with strong analytical ability, problem solving skills, and attention to detail
• Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication and facilitation skills; demonstrated ability to foster working relationships with the team, IT Management and stakeholder departments
• Understanding of technology architecture, technology platforms and ability to explain technical concepts to the non-technical users in the context of business requirements. 
• Demonstrated experience defining metrics that measure success of the technology solution in addressing business and technical requirements as well as achieving the desired outcomes.


• AWS Certified Developer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, and/or AWS Certified Data Analytics certifications. 
• Experience with AWS Sagemaker with Jupyter Notebook
• Experience with PowerBI
• Experience with Utility, Power, Clean Energy, or related business analytic requirements
