Job Summary

The is a System Reliability Ratings Engineer position within the NERC Standards & Compliance group within the Assets Management and Planning organization. This position will work closely and collaboratively with the Electric System Operations Center, System Reliability, System Protection, Outage Planning & Scheduling, Projects & Construction and PJM to develop, communicate and verify Transmission Facility Ratings and maintain evidence/documentation of PSE&G compliance with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) FAC-008 standard. 

Job Responsibilities

The main job duties entail ensuring compliance with requirements for all applicable PSE&G Bulk Electric System (BES) facilities and elements that are subject to the NERC FAC-008 standard. This includes, but is not limited to: 
•    Identifying any PSE&G BES changes or conditions that require development of new or revised Transmission Facility Ratings. 
•    Communicating Transmission Facility Ratings changes internally and externally to PJM.
•    Provide continuous PJM TERM ticketing support for PSE&G Electric System Operations, ensuring efficient creation, management, and oversight of all necessary tickets. 
•    Availability to create and manage PJM TERM tickets during extended hours and weekends.
•    Review Mis-operations – NERC Reliability Standards PRC-004, PRC016 Spreadsheet from the PSE&G Services NERC Compliance Group. Supply NERC Event Id’s for outages that are NERC TADS Reportable. Document in NERC TADS and NATF Spreadsheet, on a quarterly basis.
•    Document NERC TADS Data in NATF Database on a yearly basis, and include sub-cause data unique to NATF Spreadsheet
•    Performing verification activities to ensure that ratings, and ratings implementation schedules are correct
•    Works independently on most technical issues.
•    Acting as Transmission Facility Ratings Subject-Matter-Expert for any FAC-008 NERC compliance engagements.
•    Maintaining existing Transmission Facility Ratings Manuals and Process documents and creating new process, procedure and manual documents as needed
•    Assist in the preparation and execution of activities related to the ReliabilityFirst (RF) audits, ensuring alignment with regulatory and organizational standards.
•    Provide technical expertise and support during the RF audit, addressing inquiries, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with industry best practices.
•    Maintain comprehensive records of audit findings, follow-up actions, and communication to ensure thorough documentation and reporting.
•    Support Pre-Energization Field Verification
•    Support storm look-up damage assessments when required.

 

Job Specific Qualifications

Required:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical discipline
•    Minimum of Six years experience that includes electric operations or electric asset management work and/or transmission construction project work.
•    Advanced knowledge and experience with electric transmission and distribution systems, inside/outside plant assets, and interpretation of electrical drawings.
•    Demonstrated team leadership on critical projects or initiatives
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders. Including Reliability First (RF), PJM, the North American Transmission Forum and other industry forums
•    Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making and project management skills.  
•    Results-oriented, adaptable and focused on seeking successful outcomes.  
•    Demonstrated ability to perform complex technical assignments requiring considerable knowledge of engineering and regulatory/legal principles and practices in Transmission Facility Ratings 
•    Proficiency with desktop applications, such as Microsoft Office and working knowledge of SAP.
•    Must possess a valid U. S. driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record


Desired:
•    Advanced knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Visio.
•    Experience in the Energy or Utility industry, preferably in the area of Transmission Facility Ratings.
•    Familiarity with NERC FAC-008 standard and PSE&G Transmission Facility Ratings Methodology manual.
•    Experience supporting systems subject to regulatory compliance requirements, or experience with FERC, NERC, RF, and PJM.
•    Advanced technical or business degree
•    Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
