Job Summary

The Technology Engineer is a direct report to the IT Infrastructure Real-Time Operations Supervisor within IT Engineering group with understanding of business goals, business processes, and technology expertise in one or more domains, technology solution design and implementation. 
The Technology Engineer is involved in the full technology life cycle and responsible for designing, coding, configuring, testing, implementing and supporting software, hardware and systems. Technology Engineers work closely with Analysts and Product Managers to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and physical design of technical solutions. Technology Engineers may be assigned to either implementation or support functions. Implementation involves creating new technology based solutions whereas support involves upgrades, maintenance or issue resolution to existing technology solutions.

Please note this is a multi-level position in PSE&G's Utility Technologies department. The title and level assigned to the successful candidate will be determined by assessing skills, knowledge, related experience, scope and number of projects managed learned through the interview process.

Please note this position is hybrid, comprised of remote and in office work.  PSEG reserves the right to amend the hybrid model at any time.

Job Responsibilities

Design, configuration, development, documentation and testing of technology solutions to meet business or technology requirements.  Evaluation of existing technology solutions to determine fit for purpose for the new business or technology requirements.  Recommendation of technology alternatives.  Collaboration with other individuals to ensure proper integration of the new technology solution with the existing technology solutions.
•Analysis of end user’s needs, business and technology requirements.  Translation of these requirements into technology solution capabilities and design.  Alternatively, using the user needs, business and technology knowledge to peer review designs, implementation plans, software code, configuration settings or other artifacts to ensure technology solution being created by others meets the user needs, business and technology requirements.
Specific responsibilities include:
•    Manage and collaborate in a multi-cultural team on daily incident & change management activities.
•    Assist with quality, innovation, resource management, etc., to drive efficiencies while demonstrating compliance with corporate management standards.
•    Day-to-day functional management of the organization including performance management, training/developing, forecasting/reporting, and budgeting/expense control.
•    Develop and manage processes that ensure data analysis and quality checks are performed.
•    Lifecycle management, capacity management and vendor management.
•    Responsible for establishing, developing, and maintaining positive and meaningful relationships with key clients to ensure their needs are met and issues are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
•    Responsible for identifying and resolving complex network problems while performing related duties as assigned and/or requested.
•    Handles network implementations, configurations, and peer reviews of PSEG network equipment.
•    Continuously monitor network operations to ensure proper function of circuits, hardware, and software while tuning network and system performance. 
•    Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures for the network, technical specifications and documents, drawings and system documentation, and operating manuals.
•    Partners with business analysts to translate business requirements to technology solution requirements.
•    Creates process flowcharts, diagrams, drawings and other related documentation.  Creates technical workflows using different modeling techniques.
•    Ensures that the design and technology solution implementation meets security and QA standards. Suggests fixes to issues by doing a thorough analysis of root cause and impact of any defect(s).
•    Creates technology solutions based on a disciplined process.  Works on tasks that require skills in multiple technical environments and knowledge of a specific business area.
•    Documents capabilities and any changes to new or existing components and associated test activities and test results.
•    Participates in analysis of end-user needs and designs.  May configure, develop and test low to medium complexity technology solutions to satisfy demand.  Gathers information to aid build versus buy analysis for business demand. 
•    Partners with business analysts to translate business requirements to technology solution requirements of mostly low complexity technology solutions.

Job Specific Qualifications

In addition to the requirements listed below, please note this is a multi-level position and placement of the successful candidate will be based on job performance, skills, knowledge and experience. For the Associate Technology Engineer, must have at least 2 years of professional technology solution engineering. For a Technology Engineer, must have 4 or more years of professional technology solution engineering. For a Senior Technology Engineer, must have 6 or more years of professional technology solution engineering.
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field i.e. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities through technology solution ownership and adoption, projects or other work experiences.
• Demonstrated experience of implementing technology solutions using structured methodologies such as agile (SCRUM, Kanban etc.) and waterfall. 
Required Competencies:
• Demonstrated ability to create both technical and non-technical end-user documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, multi-task effectively with attention to detail, and willing to accept a change in priorities as necessary
 • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to learn new business and technical concepts
• Demonstrated, written and verbal communication and interpersonal facilitation skills, coupled with strong leadership, technical teamwork in order to foster relationships with the team, IT Management and Client departments
• Understanding of technology architecture, technology platforms and ability to explain technical concepts to the business users in the context of business requirements 
• Demonstrated ability to define metrics that measure success of the technology solution in addressing business and technical requirements as well as achieving the desired outcomes
• Working knowledge of Transmission, Distribution, Gas Delivery, and NERC CIP specific areas including business process configuration and execution for those assigned domains
Desired Qualifications: 
• Graduate degree or MBA
• Experience with mission critical technology solutions
• Understanding financial principles as they apply to technology investments such as cost to achieve, cost to operate, depreciation, maintenance etc.
• Experience with scripting and automation with the expectation that the candidate will be an active participant in the emerging automation culture that is present in our organization.
