Job Summary

PSEG Nuclear is looking for an intern for the Nuclear Fuels Department.

 

The Nuclear Fuels Intern with PSEG Nuclear is a unique opportunity for students interested in working in the commercial nuclear power industry with potential for future full-time opportunities. This position is a 10-12 week paid, full-time internship. Our interns will gain valuable insight into operating and maintaining three nuclear power plants; New Jersey’s largest source of green, sustainable energy.

 

Technical interns collaborate with one or more Nuclear Fuel Engineers in performance of assignments, spend time shadowing a diverse group of experienced engineers, and work on unique challenging assignments that support larger projects. Opportunities exist for both office and field work assignments in a hybrid work environment to experience the day-to-day workings of nuclear fuel engineering with both Nuclear Fuel Design and Reactor Engineering assignments. Beyond the technical skill development, the candidates will develop their business and soft skills with training curriculum built into the summer program. At PSEG Nuclear, you will be welcomed as a full contributor to the team, working directly with our Nuclear Fuels staff as well as jointly with other station engineering groups, and operations and maintenance personnel. A focus area for PSEG Nuclear is innovation, seeking unique opportunities and new solutions on complex technical problems.

 

This position will be hybrid flexible.
 

Job Responsibilities

Assignments will include working alongside professionals in the following areas:

  • Performing core design, safety analysis, spent fuel management, fuel reliability, reactivity management, or special nuclear material accounting functions.
  • Becoming proficient in frequently used nuclear fuel, reactor engineering and company software. Development of schedules and projects.
  • Conducting quality assurance through peer reviews of technical products. Development and upkeep of instructional procedures & manuals.
  • Maintaining high standard of professionalism in attitudes and communication with fellow employees and customers.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required education/skills: The successful candidate(s) must be actively pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited institution in Nuclear Engineering or Engineering major with a Nuclear Concentration/minor and graduating between December 2025 and May 2028. Students graduating in May/June 2025 are not eligible unless they are enrolling in a post-graduate degree program in the fall term of 2025. PSEG recognizes institutions of higher education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent. Candidates must have completed sophomore level course work for consideration. Because this position will require traveling to various PSEG locations, a valid driver's license and a safe driving record is required.

 

Preferred:

  • 3.0 GPA

All PSEG internship roles are paid at an hourly rate, however there are no medical benefits associated with these positions. Candidates are expected to work 40 hours per week over the duration of the summer internship. We are targeting currently enrolled/matriculating students that are able to commute to their designated work location as needed in a hybrid work environment. Housing, transportation, and immigration support will not be provided in association with these positions.
