Job Summary

PSEG Nuclear Business Unit is looking for an Associate Voice Network Technology Engineer with a thorough knowledge of fundamental networking concepts, hands-on experience with voice and network troubleshooting, technology solution design, and implementation. The Associate Voice Network Technology Engineer is involved in the full technology life cycle and responsible for designing, coding, configuring, testing, implementing and supporting voice and network software, hardware and systems. Technology Engineers may be assigned to either implementation or support functions. Implementation involves creating new technology based solutions whereas support involves upgrades, maintenance or issue resolution to existing technology solutions.
 

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities are:

  • Design, configuration, development, documentation, and testing of technology solutions to meet business or technology requirements.  Recommendation of technology alternatives.  Collaboration with other individuals to ensure proper integration of the new technology solution with the existing technology solutions.
  • Analysis of end user’s needs, business, and technology requirements.  Translation of these requirements into technology solution capabilities and design.  Alternatively, using the user needs, business, and technology knowledge to peer review designs, implementation plans, software code, configuration settings or other artifacts to ensure technology solution being created by others meets the user needs, business and technology requirements.
  • Provides support toward resolution of escalated support tickets.  May perform the needed analysis to identify root cause of reported incidents as well as identify the short and long term remediation for the identified incidents

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Oversees design, implementation, and maintenance of voice communications systems. 
  • Demonstrates expertise in the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of data and voice network communications systems. 
  • Develops internal documents for troubleshooting support, network infrastructure documentation, and maintenance procedures. 
  • Migrates sites from legacy PBX to Cisco VoIP and provides tier 3 support for both Cisco VoIP and legacy PBX telephone systems. 
  • Manages secure communications devices and infrastructure components (POTs, ISDN, PBX, call management servers, conference bridges, etc.). 
  • Works with network services team to develop fully integrated data and voice solutions. 
  • Ensures that the design and technology solution implementation meets security and QA standards. Suggests fixes to issues by doing a thorough analysis of root cause and impact of any defect(s).
  • Conducts design and change record peer reviews in support of upcoming changes.  
  • Provides support toward resolution of escalated support tickets. 

Job Specific Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field i.e. STEM
  • 2-4 years of professional technology solution engineering
  • 2+ years primary support experience in IP, VOIP, PBX, voice mail, voice networks, and video systems. 
  • 2+ years performing configuration, implementation, and maintenance of voice, data, and/or network communications systems. 
  • Demonstrated good leadership capabilities through technology solution ownership and adoption, projects or other work experiences. 
  • Experience with telecommunication wiring and telecommunication switch/PBX programming. 
  • Knowledge and experience of basic understanding of infrastructure wiring/connectivity. 
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task effectively.
  • Strong analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Leadership, technical teamwork, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to foster working relationships with the team, IT Management, and client departments.
  • Understanding of technology architecture, technology platforms, and ability to explain technical concepts to the business users in the context of business requirements. 

 

Desired:  

  • CCNA- Routing & Switching OR Voice
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of network and voice infrastructures: LAN, WAN, routers, switches, firewalls, trunking, PSTN, PRI, TDM, POTS, and local exchange carriers
  • Experience implementing off the shelf products.
  • Experience with mission critical technology solutions.
