Summary
Performs the work required in the operation of the storeroom and other storage areas under storeroom jurisdiction. Operate a vehicle and trailer, other than a tractor or pole trailer, with a combined weight of 55,000 pounds. Operate a fork lift truck.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate storeroom truck, including trailer equipment in accordance with Company rules and instructions and state and local government requirements. Employees in this classification will not be required to drive a vehicle in excess of 18,000 pounds decal weight until they have attained a CDL (Certified Driver's License).
- Perform incidental duties on storeroom truck, such as check and add fuel, lubricating oil, and radiator solution. Check tire pressures and general operating conditions. Install and remove skid chains and change tires.
- Report all failures or items requiring attention involving the truck or trailer equipment.
- Receive, unpack, count, weigh or measure, sort, inspect, identify, store and issue materials, tools and equipment; take inventory.
- Disassemble and clean material performing such work as unbolt guy clamps, strip crossarms, clean and remove ties and tape from insulators, remove ends of wire from connectors, run down threads on bolts, and take apart street lighting assemblies.
- Rearrange stock, clean bins and material handling equipment, sweep floors and perform other housekeeping tasks; shovel snow within the area assigned to storeroom, where required.
- Issue material for jobs according to orders received, place material at designated locations for trucking to the jobs; receive and make disposition of material returned from jobs.
- Perform all material handling duties in compliance with corporate accounting policies and inventory.
- Prepare and pack materials for shipment.
- Call for, receive and haul material for the storeroom and make deliveries from the storeroom.
- Operate hoists, elevators, fork lifts, power and hand trucks and other material handling equipment.
- Load, unload, move and handle material and equipment.
- Perform clerical work related to the job.
- Learn the location and proper use of fire extinguishing equipment related to the job and learn to apply the approved methods of artificial respiration.
- Perform other similar or less skilled work of the occupational group.
- Assist employees of the higher classification in storeroom work.
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED
- Have a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
- Able to qualify for a commercial driver's license to operate motor vehicles in the State of New Jersey.
- Able to read, write legibly, speak and understand English; must be able to perform the fundamental operation in arithmetic and take measurements.
- Able to follow simple instructions and perform routine operations.
- Able to acquire various classes of forklift certification.
- Have mechanical aptitude.
- Have the ability to learn:
- Those sections of the Standard Storeroom Procedure which pertain to this job.
- The application of hoists, tackle and knots used in storeroom work.
- The identification and use of all materials, tools and equipment commonly issued from the storeroom.
- The geography of the area assigned.
- The safe operation of truck and trailer equipment and their loading limits.
