This is a "Project" position designed to support project work for a limited duration. While the exact duration of the project is yet to be determined, we currently anticipate a period of 3-5 years based on business needs at the present time following which you will separate from the Company. It is important for you to understand that this period may be shortened based on business needs in the future, at which point you will separate from the Company. It is also important for you to understand that this employment is of a limited duration and that you will not be entitled to separation benefits under any PSEG plan at the time you separate from the Company. Director Level approval and waiver will be required for you to bid on other PSEG opportunities within the first 3 years of assignment. From year 4 through the end of your assignment, Director level approval and waiver will not be required. If your assignment ends prior to the anticipated timeframe based on business needs, you will be allowed to bid on other PSEG opportunities without Director level approval from the time you are notified your assignment will be ending through the end date of the assignment.

This is a multi-level growth series position (Grade Level 26/27) that is posted at the Technology Engineer level. The title, grade level and incentive target assigned to the successful candidate will be determined by assessing skills and related experience, learned through the interview process.

These are field assignments within the Utility Technologies Organization. Although, these positions will have Central Electric Division in Somerset, New Jersey as the reporting location, the positions are mobile and require daily travel to work sites throughout the state of New Jersey (Company policy for the use of Company Car or Mileage Allowance for the use of a personal vehicle to travel to/from work locations will apply).

Contribute to the successful implementation of Password Management in all Distribution Substations. Reconfiguration of SCADA RTU’s, Relay’s and network switches will be required, including technical support as well as meeting budget and scheduling requirements.

Provide technical, logistical and administrative field support to Product Owner in conjunction with the installation, operation, and maintenance of all types of protective and auxiliary relays, SCADA systems and associated equipment. Oversee Chief Relay Technicians work in conjunction with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Password Management systems. Test communication of devices to a data concentrator &/or central server. Assist in training and evaluation of employees in their duties. Accept periodic on-call assignments during emergencies as required. Provide technical support and assistance on other Energy Cloud initiatives and products. Availability for emergencies 24/7/365.

Responsibilities include working with multiple Construction and Distribution Supervisors, Technicians, Project Teams and other engineers to ensure concurrence on all major project design and constructability issues. Areas of responsibility include the following: drawing reviews and station constructability; outage coordination and contingency planning; and assisting with scope definition.


This professional should be a results-oriented and data-driven individual with high-level technical skills. They should be intellectually curious, well-rounded, and able to explain highly technical concepts to non-technical counterparts.

Required Skills, Competencies, Education and Experience:

  • B.S in Engineering or equivalent technology degree with minimum of two years of electrical utility experience and knowledge of electrical substations and switching stations equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task effectively, to accept changes in priorities as necessary, and to learn new business and technical concepts.
  • Applicant must have effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong planning and organizing skills, must be adaptable and be results-oriented.
  • Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills are essential.
  • Must foster an inclusive work environment and respect all aspects of diversity
  • Must demonstrate and value differences in others' strengths, perspectives, approaches, and personal choices.
  • Applies Agile concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Understanding of Basic Automations Principles and components such as RTUs, IEDs, Controllers
  • Understanding of Basic Networking and Communication Protocol such as TCP/IP, Modbus, DNP3
  • Ability to read, edit and create electrical and network schematics and diagrams
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

 Desired Skills, Competencies, Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree or specific utility technical training
  • Familiarity with SEL devices and associated software.
  • Agile Certifications or experience with the agile methods (SCRUM, KANBAN etc.)
