This is a first level supervisory position in the Electric T&D - Projects and Construction (P&C) line of business.  Provide supervision for the application of protective relay settings and relay / controls testing for major new, replacement and upgraded electric inside plant facilities. Oversee the activities of Relay Technicians, both PSE&G employees and contractors in order to ensure safe and efficient application of relay settings and associated testing.  Supervise the application and testing of relay and controls systems associated with the construction of outside plant distribution facilities, including feeder/tie reclosers.

Responsibilities also include work assignment and scheduling, outage planning and contractor oversight.  Work closely with System Protection to ensure proper application of Relay Test Orders and associated testing.  Ensure post energization phasing is completed in a timely manner and results are reviewed by System Protection.  Maximize system reliability by ensuring timely and effective planning and scheduling.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide development and training to Inside Plant personnel in work practices and use of tools and equipment
  • Promote safety principles and procedures
  • Coach, counsel and recognize associates, as required, and facilitate first step grievance meetings in accordance with Positive Discipline
  • Conduct fact-finding meetings, as required
  • Conduct performance appraisal reviews with bargaining unit associates
  • Assist in the identification and recognition of unusual, unsafe or inappropriate work conditions and take necessary corrective action
  • Interface with Division Operations to ensure top quartile system reliability
  • Maintain effective working relationships across departments to achieve Safe and Reliable operation of the Electric Grid and ensure quality of work performed is in compliance with Company standards, procedures and safe work practices
  • Accept overtime, call out and on-call assignments and provide support of work activities and response to emergencies during and outside of normal working hours, including emergency response and restoration for major system and weather events within and outside of the division, including acceptance of Mutual Aid obligations 
  • Safety sensitive position / D.O.T. testing required

Job Specific Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum three years’ experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of electric inside plant facilities
  • Minimum three years’ experience and knowledge of protective relays and controls systems
  • Working knowledge of Company / Union Agreement
  • As the job requires driving to Company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving history
  • Must obtain an acceptable score on the First Line Supervisor's Test (FLST) unless presently directly and supervising (i.e. responsible for performance review) operating department / represented associates for a minimum of 12 continuous months. For those who have previously taken and received an acceptable score on the FLST, but who are not presently and directly supervising represented associates, test results will be valid for a maximum period of two years from the date the test was taken.  Acceptable test results exceeding the two-year period (for those applicants not presently and directly supervising represented associates) cannot be used in bidding on or applying for a first line supervisory position for which the test was validated.

DESIRED:

  • BS Degree in Engineering
  • PE License
  • Working knowledge of DWMS and other computer applications
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships and interface with other groups in the Division as well as Asset Management and other P&C associates
  • Maintain or obtain a CDL license
