Position Description

This senior level position in the Outage Planning & Scheduling group of DP&C has the primary responsibility of overseeing the successful planning, scheduling, and management of Transmission and Distribution outages in PSE&G territory, allowing for the safe and on time execution of DP&C’s project and program portfolios.

 

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide direct oversight and guidance to a team of DP&C Outage Contingency Planners located in the Electric Operating Divisions and Project Specific Outage Personnel.  
  • Maintain positive relationships with DP&C, Division, ESOC, AMCS, and PJM.
  • Resolve and prevent outage conflicts through collaboration with Transmission Planning, ESOC, Divisions, Project Teams, and construction personnel.
  • Ensure that outages are professionally and comprehensively planned and executed in line with PJM, ESOC, and Division guidelines to support project objectives, maintain electric system reliability, and limit the risk associated with scheduled outages.
  • Provide technical expertise on outages to construction personnel and project teams as required, ensuring outages include all necessary equipment and clearances.
  • Ensure project sequence documents are designed, maintained, and provided to ESOC and PJM within PJM’s modelling deadlines.  
  • Support pre-construction outage contingency reviews, including reviewing and approving contingency plans.
  • Achieve the desired results of the DP&C Organization through the use of PSEG values and tools, sound management practices and skills, and a total commitment to teamwork. 
  • Support DP&C scorecard metrics to ensure the continued success of PSEG and DP&C.
  • Conduct performance reviews and identify opportunities for growth and learning for reports.
  • Promote a culture in line with the PSEG values and behaviors.

     

    Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provide support outside of normal hours in support of DP&C’s 24/7 operations as required.
  • Participate in on-call assignments in accordance with DP&C requirements for response to system emergencies.

 

        Required:

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or Construction.
  • At least 8 years electric utility operations/construction experience in the areas of project management, engineering and/or construction including 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of electric substations and switching stations equipment, applicable substation construction work practices and procedures, safety rules, and safety tagging.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Distribution/Transmission Field Operations.
  • Proven management/supervisory experience and clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Extensive experience in Electric T&D outage planning, outage scheduling, and developing contingency plans.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of PJM rules for the scheduling of Transmission Outages.
  • Experience of and knowledge utilizing WinTRIS (Windows Tagging Request Inquiry System) and DORT (Division Outage Request Tool).
  • Thorough knowledge of FERC and NERC rules and requirements.
  • Proficient in reading one line controls diagrams.
  • Foster an inclusive environment and be a good team player.
  • Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.

     

    Desired:

  • Advanced degree in Business Management or Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience managing small to moderate projects.
  • P.E. License.
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
