This is a "Project" position designed to support project work for a limited duration. While the exact duration of the project is yet to be determined, we currently anticipate a period of 3-5 years based on business needs at the present time following which you will separate from the Company. It is important for you to understand that this period may be shortened based on business needs in the future at which point you will separate from the Company. It is also important for you to understand that this employment is of a limited duration and that you will not be entitled to separation benefits under any PSEG plan at the time you separate from the Company. Director Level approval and waiver will be required for you to bid on other PSEG opportunities within the first 3 years of assignment. From year 4 through the end of your assignment, Director level approval and waiver will not be required. If your assignment ends prior to the anticipated timeframe based on business needs, you will be allowed to bid on other PSEG opportunities without Director level approval from the time you are notified your assignment will be ending through the end date of the assignment.


Position description:


Responsible for Protection System Compliance for all NERC identified Bulk Electric System (BES) protection systems. The engineer will be required to understand and  apply  applicable NERC standards. These standards include the latest version of PRC-005 (protection maintenance standards) and specific requirements of CIP-007 and CIP-010. Additionally, the engineer will ensure compliance of disturbance monitoring equipment (DFR's and DDR's)  as per NERC standards PRC-002  and loadability standards under PRC-023.

The engineer will ensure that all new construction commissioning records required by to satisfy the NERC standards are completed on schedule and conform to PSE&G testing standards applicable to the type of protection system. The engineer will first review and then properly enter all test documentation into SAP with the proper maintenance schedule and  priority.  Will be responsible for reviewing and updating the Relay Test Manual  as necessary to  ensure all relay  testing methods are  up to date  and correct.

The engineer will become familiar with relay testing on electromechanical, static and  microprocessor based  relay  systems and any associated communication systems. Will provide support to the  division for testing  issues related to protection system maintenance and  will  work closely with  the  system protection group,  Principal compliance engineer, and Manager – Protection and Control. Will provide all data to support NERC audits and certifications as necessary. Will be expected to remain familiar with all relevant NERC and RFC standards. Will be responsible for review and comment on standards under development through Corporate Compliance. Position is a direct report to the Manager - Protection and Control..



• Bachelor of Science in an Engineering Discipline, or at least 5 years substation experience preferably in protection system maintenance.

• Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both  verbally and in writing

• Must have the ability to work well with people from varying disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.

• Strong technical writing skills, comprehension of technical manuals. The position will require a thorough understanding of system protection testing principles.

• This position requires excellent problem solving and decision making skills, the ability to  work with little supervision. Attention to detail.

• Proficiency with desktop applications, such as Word and Excel is required. Proficiency with SAP is also required.

• Candidate must possess excellent planning and , verbal and  written demonstrated skills  and abilities, which  includes good time management and prioritization skills.

Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.

• Adobe Acrobat and MS Access

• Experience in the Energy  or Electric Utility industry, preferably in the  area  of system protection.

• Experience supporting systems subject to regulatory compliance requirements, or experience with FERC, NERC, RFC, or PJM.
