Job Summary
The Sr. Project Controls Engineer is responsible for developing and managing Projects and Construction (P&C) Distribution portfolio project schedules from Planning thru Project Closure for active projects. The candidate in this position will utilize their expertise to offer technical/analytical and functional support in the area of project controls scheduling. Candidate will work closely with other internal stakeholders engaged in the scheduling process. Successful candidate will ensure projects being executed will meet the baseline schedule review process, are executed with optimal use of both internal and external resources within required timeframes, as well as within budget and scope. Observe schedule and project team members to evaluate processes adherence and quality for P6 project schedules which support forecasting, reporting and departmental targets. The Sr. Project Controls Engineer - Scheduler will report directly to the P&C Distribution portfolio Scheduling Lead.
Job Responsibilities
• Implement standard schedule best practice, and processes to ensure P&C projects are executed and delivered in accordance with approved project scope.
• Develop, coordinate and maintain schedule, resource and other data within Primavera P6.
• Develop, coordinate and maintain status and variance reporting to include, executive dashboards, Line of Business project reporting, and look ahead schedules to ensure schedule alignment/communication with key project stakeholders
• Develop, summary reports to support annual performance indices, such as SPI, CPI, Total Float, Critical Paths, and Inter project dependency reporting. Support any and all Company, department and team Key Performance indices (KPI’s).
• Analyze P6 schedule information and provide project teams with recommended corrective action to ensure the work meets required in-service/go live dates.
• Prepare detailed schedule reports as required, i.e., critical path view, baseline vs. actual view, look ahead view, milestone view, “what-if” scenarios, etc.
• Recommend Project Management Information System tool enhancements to increase efficiencies, enhance oversight, and increases project and program schedule data quality. Review and evolve baseline review processes, monitor stage gate review check points through project life cycle to closure.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Construction, or Business discipline or minimum six years professional business, engineering or construction experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience with Project Controls concepts (project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, or closeout)
- Minimum 5 years of experience with Scheduling concepts (schedule development, schedule controls and variance reporting
- Full proficiency and experience with Integrated Data Management Tools such as, MS Excel and MS Access; MS Project; and SharePoint and experience with computer applications, including Primavera P6, and MS Office suite – including strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Capable of delivering technical presentations to project stakeholders and management and communicating plans, ideas, and strategies to key stakeholders, including Company leadership
- Strong effective oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal and team-building skills
- Must be a self-starter capable of seeking out project-related information from project stakeholders and possess leadership skills in order to train and develop others and stand in for Lead Project Controls Engineer, when required
- Must take personal accountability for actions and results; strive for personal and departmental continuous improvement; focus on measurement of results and demonstrate PSEG Values & Behavior
Desired:
- Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering or MBA
- PMI-SP Scheduling Professional certification or PMP certification
- Experience in all areas of project management
- SAP experience
