Under general directive supervision, the Service Specialist / Journeyman investigates and satisfies all complaints for servicing automatic gas appliances, carries through assignments, at times, with the assistance of other employees of equal or lesser grade; dispatches work orders to employees, performs duties such as:

 

1. Adjusting automatic appliances and associated electrical control equipment, such as, water heaters, house heating, cooling, and conditioning systems, and commercial and industrial equipment.

 

2. Making investigations and satisfying service requirements on air conditioning controls, circuits, pressure, pilots and burners, etc. of the type that would normally be performed on central building heating or other gas burning equipment of which the following items are typical but not exclusive - (1) Correcting gas pressure and supply (2) Cleaning and adjusting burners and pilots (3) Cleaning and repairing gas controls and filters (4) Correcting fan operations where necessary (5) Checking flues, basic power circuit, and thermostats (6) Making seasonal changeover (7) Lighting pilots and making minor repairs

 

3. Inspecting gas installations done by plumbers or contractors, excluding fully automatic equipment using a programmed sequence of operation to attain, prove and maintain combustion (controls of the type required on fully automatic equipment with input of 400,000 BTU per hour or more in a single combustion chamber), to determine whether the specifications of the Company have been followed and that the completed work is safe and satisfactory for receiving as service.

 

4. Performing other similar or less skilled work of the occupational group.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Must meet the Company’s requirements as to general qualifications; must have all the qualifications of Service Mechanic or Service Apprentice and, in addition:

 

1. Must have a working knowledge of HVAC equipment

 

2. Must have the ability to locate and remedy sources of trouble in all types of gas utilization equipment and controls

 

3. Must have a working knowledge of the use of special tools and instruments such as flue gas analyzers

 

4. Must be able to make simple diagrams of controls and wiring

 

5. Must have a thorough knowledge of the company’s policy concerning charges to customers for services and repair work performed

 

6. Must know the Company’s safety rules applying to the work;

 

7. Must be able to maintain harmony and safety and obtain satisfactory work results from employees assigned to work with them.

 

In addition: Need experience in adjusting, service or repair of equipment consuming 1,000,000 BTU’s or less for residential and commercial buildings

 

Must possess type II or Universal refrigerant certificate;

 

In all 9401 Classification, seniority will be based on date of entering Service Specialist classification.

 

Must successfully pass the Gas Battery preplacement test before hire.

 

Must have a valid driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driving record

 

High School Diploma or equivalent

 

Certain positions at the Company may require you to have access to Part 810-Controlled Information.  Under the law, the Company is limited in who it can share this information with and in certain circumstances it is necessary to obtain specific authorization before the Company can share this information.  Accordingly, if the position does require access to this information, you must complete a 10 CFR Part 810 Export Control Compliance Nationality Request Form, a copy of which will be provided to you by Talent Acquisition if an offer is made.  If there is a need for specific authorization, due to the time it takes to obtain authorization from the government, we will likely not be able to further proceed with an offer.
